Since 2005 this has been my first thought for Chinese food in San Francisco. You don't need the menu: you say how hungry you are and they take it from there. That habit began as the chef's fix for the queue outside and became the restaurant's signature. It's small and busy at the edge of Chinatown — better suited to a quick, satisfying meal than a quiet dinner.

Tell them how hungry you are and let the chef do the rest
Good to know
- A queue is normal; going early or late shortens the wait.
- It helps to mention allergies or dislikes up front, since they order on your behalf.
